Nigerian artiste Oxlade was a no-show last evening at cricket Oval during an event where he was supposed to perform alongside Jamaican artiste Beenie Man and other Ugandan artistes.
As many questions lingered through people’s minds about why the Nigerian artiste did not come through, he saved them time by posting what happened.
According to Oxlade, the promoter of the show failed to honor his part of the deal.
“Promoters need to learn to do the right thing when booking artists… You invite an artist to come perform at your event, you were given a booking agreement which you duly signed. Then you refused to honor your own part of the contract and refused to pay me as when due,” reads part of Oxlade’s statement.
He also added that the promoter known as Michael also cancelled his return flight back to Nigeria. “Michael of Top Boy entertainment UG, you owe Ugandan people an explanation as to why I did not perform last night. I would love to go into details of what happened. Even after you knowingly cancelled my return flight back to Nigeria,” he posted.
Back to the show, Beenie Man had earlier given Ugandans a good performance during his fourth time in the Pearl of Africa, unlike the last time he performed in Uganda thirteen years ago at Kyadondo rugby grounds.
He was more sober this time round, did songs Ugandans were expecting and his band was up to the task. Despite his age (50 years), the self-proclaimed ‘ ‘King of Dancehall ” proved he still has whatever it takes to give the crowd a memorable performance. He pulled different dance strokes, interacted with the audience, and lasted an hour on the stage doing songs like ‘Girls Dem Sugar’, ‘King of the Dancehall’, ‘I’m drinking Rum & Red Bull’, ‘Let Him Go’, and ‘Girls’ among others. He further went on and did covers from other Jamaican artistes like ‘Nuttin No Go So’, ‘Murder She Wrote, ‘Bleach’ and ‘Feeling Hot’ among others.
Other Ugandan artistes that performed include Azawi, Winnie Nwagi, Vinka, Grenade, and Zex Bilangilangi.
