Nakazibwe promises more after debut fete

While the VVIP section had the highest number of revellers, with almost all the tables occupied, the VIP and general section had a low turn up.

Cake was cut to launch the event that will be held annually.

After Faridah Nakazibwe announcing that the people from Masaka will be getting together at Lugogo Cricket Oval, excitement was in high gear because there is quite a number of people from greater Masaka living in Kampala.

However, the fete did not go as planned as there was a low turn up. Walking into cricket oval, you would notice that the venue was too big for the event but it was visible that the organisers did a good job with a well thought out theme.

There was a dummy equator, a landmark that symbolises entry into the Greater Masaka region, 360 cameras and electric swings. The VVIP section had the highest number of revellers, with almost all the tables occupied while the VIP and general section had wanting numbers.

TV presenter Precious Remmy was one of the MCs of the night and she introduced Madrat and Chiko as the first acts. They worked the little crowd with jokes mainly about how people from Masaka region behave, mentioning their love for cars such as the Toyota Ipsum and the latest being a Toyota Wish that they comfortably use to transport grasshoppers while people in Kampala pose with them as posh.

Several acts graced the evening as promised, including Kakuuto County MP Geofrey Lutaaya and his wife Irene Namatovu. The couple put up a wonderful performance as they sang along to almost all their songs. Bruno K also received ululation from the audience, especially as he performed his song titled, Faridah.

Maureen Nantume also graced the event among other many band artistes, cultural dance performers and upcoming artistes, especially those that hail from greater Masaka region.

However the evening got crazy when Suuna Ben and Mbaziira Tony of the famous Binyanyanyanya took to the stage, getting people off their seats. You could easily identify someone from Masaka and one masquerading to be one.

The lady of the night, Faridah Nakazibwe, took to the stage before the event closed and thanked eve-ryone who turned up for the show and believing in her dream.

The Mwasuze Mutya presenter asked her team not to lose hope and said this was a great start.
She also thanked her mother who was in attendance for always giving her the strength to carry on even at the darkest moments of her life.

Prince David Kintu Wasajja the guest of honour, accompanied by the Deputy Pokino (Chief of Buddu County), thanked Nakazibwe for the idea and said Masaka is a historical region in Buganda and the kingdom will always work hand in hand with those who support the development of Buddu. The night also had cake-cutting and fireworks display as this acted as the official launch of the event.

The second part of the event will be at Masaka Rec-reation Grounds this Saturday- Written by David S Mukooza
