Authorities in Mubende have suspended musician David Lutalo’s Kabisi Kandagala following an Ebola outbreak confirmed in the district on Tuesday.
“I have been seeing the concert’s advertisement. We have suspended the concert till further notice,” Mubende Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ms Rosemary Byabashaija said.
She added: “Whenever people see a musician from Kampala, they become uncontrollable so we had to suspend the event to deal with the disease first.”
Authorities say the concert will not be allowed “until the situation comes to normal.”
On Tuesday, government said a 24-year-old man died from Ebola at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital on Monday.
Health officials and civic leaders met Wednesday and agreed to suspend crowded gatherings including weddings, burials, bars and other such leisure hubs in order to control spread of the viral disease now confirmed among at least seven people.
“Allowing gatherings to continue would be risking people’s lives since the virus spreads rapidly through physical contact,” RDC Ms Byabashaija said on Thursday as she appealed to singer Lutalo to call off his concert initially scheduled for September 30, 2022.
