Kafa Coh: Ugandan legal thriller to premier in October

With so much happening on the African continent, actress and producer Doreen Mirembe through Amani production house has produced a legal thriller that not only changes how Ugandan women both in media and film are potrayed but also the progress in the Art of storytelling.

Mirembe rounds up all the injustices in Africa through a soon to be premiered, Pan African legal thriller dubbed ‘Kafa Coh’.

Set for October 8, at Century Cinemax Acacia Mall, the movie is a story of a naive lawyer, Sandra Atika that gets herself caught up in a legal fight of two powerful rivals and former best friends, President Arima and his vice Cedric.

Kafa Coh, meaning too much Injustice and corruption, is derived from the Kono language of the Kono people in Sierra Leone. The team was looking for an African language that is heavy.

Like any other fast growing African state, Tangosi, a fictional country is characterised with Various mineral riches, political unrests, injustices, pandemics, bloodsheds, the quest for Justice and triumphs. It is a story all African states can relate with.


“I am always very passionate about issues that affect society. Things that are so close to home. The story is somehow based on true events but it’s what happens everywhere in Africa. There are a lot of injustices happening to normal people. The people in high places tend to ignore that people are actually suffering somewhere and somehow,” Mirembe told Journalists during a press conference for the release of the film.

Mirembe is a Ugandan dental nurse, an award-winning actress, filmmaker, producer, and founder of Amani Production house.

She has produced two short films, ‘A Dog Story’ and ‘Nector’ and ‘Kafa Coh’ is her first  feature film.

Mirembe has  acted in ‘The Kojja’, ‘Deception’, ‘The Honorables’, ‘Mistakes Girls Do’, ‘Beneath the lies’, ‘Kyaddala’, ‘Queen of Katwe’ in a cameo role and ‘Catch Out’.

She has also worked on some television commercials such as the Mukwano White Star soap, Sweet Fit pants and Jesa milk. 

 

Besides having a female producer, the film has Uganda’s lead female actresses like Rehema Nanfuka, Gladys Oyenbot, Doreeen Mirembe, Mariam Ndagire, Stella Nante among others.

The male actors to look out for are: Nigerian actor Kalu Ikeagwu, Michael Wawuyo Snr, Abby Mukiibi, Vladimir Stephano, Michael Wawuyo Jnr, Philip Luswata and Patriq Nkakalukanyi.

The film will be showing at Acacia mall’s century Cinemax for seven days.
