Ugandan creatives can now have a sigh of relief as the battle of getting to have a market for their craft is getting sorted day by day.
YO TV in partnership with MTN has added channels on the redesigned YO TV app strictly for promoting the works of Ugandan musicians and filmmakers.
Speaking at the launch of the YO TV redesigned app on Friday, Aggrey Mugisha revealed that the live streaming service has added music 256 channels to champion the promotion of rising stars.
“We decided that let there be a platform where every upcoming musician’s song can be played to boost their chances of attracting professional management.” He said.
He explained that Bolingo extra, another music channel, has been added to help local artists commercialize their content.
“We sat and said our musicians make so much music but they earn poorly. We came up with Bolingo extra, a forum where musicians can have their music played and get paid instantly on their phones. They can use the dashboard to monitor their sales or withdraw money.” He said.
For filmmakers, Kibanda express, a Film Hub for all Uganda movies is to become an independent platform that can be accessed with or without the YO TV app.
Susan Kayemba, the MTN Uganda Senior Manager for Digital Services said that MTN’s partnership with YOTV is part of MTN’s mission to champion local content consumption.
“The potential of YOTV channels to take local content to the world is undebatable. With the newly unveiled products, we are optimistic that more people will enjoy more Ugandan content,” She said.
