Oliver Nakakande is on cloud nine after she was chosen to be Uganda’s representative at this year’s Miss Grand International. The pageant will be taking place at Sentul International Convention Centre in Indonesia next month.
“It’s a dream come true for me and I’m truly honored to be representing my country. I’m going to use this platform to spread information about violence against women and make sure the world is a better place for the girl child,” Nakakande said.
Joram Muzira who works closely with Miss Grand organisers said Nakakande was the best choice because of her experience in beauty pageant after representing Uganda in Miss world 2019/2020. Being the best in her group’s head to head challenge and placing fourth in the top model category, she also became the first Miss World Uganda to grace the Miss World magazine cover.
“Besides all that, she has been so passionate about empowering teenage mothers who dropped out of school by encouraging them to return to school and through her foundation, she continues to bring awareness to human rights issues affecting girls,” said Joram.
The Miss Grand International will have over 90 participants from different countries and the winner will be working with different organisations worldwide mobilising resources and amplifying voices for a greater cause.
