A few days ago, the Ministry of Education and Sports put a temporary ban on the hosting of performing artistes on premises of public or private Primary and Secondary Schools. This ban will be in place until proper guidelines have been put in place.
‘Ebango Waliwanika’ singer Rickman has come out with some advice in regards to this.
He says that the ministry should be more specific and direct when making this judgment, not the entire industry.
“I have performed at schools fully clothed, well dressed, and had decent performances. If you are addressing a certain artiste or group of artistes please be more specific and direct, there are many artists who don’t fall in the category and picture you are trying to portray about artists which is all summarized by a video of one or two artists and with your understanding and knowledge that’s the foundation for you to rob youths in schools of a get away from all the stress and pressure and anxiety that comes with daily school routines,” reads part of Rickman’s post.
He further says that most artists talk to the youths after or before performing, encouraging them and motivating them to stay in school among other things.
