Ten Ugandans went to Ethiopia a couple of weeks ago for the East African Art and Cultural Festival in Addis Ababa. This was organized by the government of Ethiopia to connect East African cultures and art. Among the Ugandan representatives was comedian Hannington Bugingo.
Being the president of the Uganda Comedians Association, he had to have an extra eye and ear on how things work elsewhere, especially in a sector that he understands more.
The fun factory actor and director said they had symposiums on copyright and how creatives can benefit from their work and majorly how governments need to prioritize the arts.
“During our comprehensive tour of the various arts and culture spaces in Ethiopia, I realized how serious and prestigious their government takes such spaces. When we visited the Oromo Cultural Centre, I realized how keenly interested the people are in preserving their culture and history,” he said.
Adding that they interacted with lecturers, and people from different ministries. Attended film festivals, and had experiences with painters, film producers, and actors.
They also visited the ambassador of Uganda to Ethiopia Rebbeca Atengo who hosted them.
