Hip Hop was celebrated over the weekend with the crowning of some of Uganda’s best rappers during the annual MTN Hip-Hop awards.
Created to recognize and celebrate the talent and hard work of artists in Uganda’s hip-hop industry, the awards saw some winners walking away with cash prizes during the day as well as discovering, nurturing and supporting new talent in the hip-hop industry through giving them a platform to showcase their Hip-Hop prowess.
This year, the winner of the MTN Pulse Cypher challenge Allan Wathika, alias Triggah walking away with shs2million, while Ibrahim Balunywa, alias Ebrahim Soul’o, and Anena Missy Ochola alias King Missy were the first and second runner-up respectively in this year’s competition and they walked away with shs1.5million and shs1million respectively.
In a surprise twist, and in recognition of their efforts and skills, a consolation prize of shs650,000 was given to the other 2 contestants each as well as 20GB Freedom data bundles to all the top 5 contestants.
In addition, the 5 final contestants received a chance to record a collabo for free at Swangz Avenue.
