Abbas Kaijuka is reborn at MBFW

STUNNING: The ‘Rebirth Collection’ as described by the designer consisted of all-white pieces that were anything but understated.

The runway at the just-concluded Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) was the perfect setting for the predominantly all-white collection, that was unveiled by Ugandan designer, Abbas Kaijuka. His brand, Kai’s Divo Collection, was one of many African brands that gathered at the Crown Conference Hall in Kigali for this year’s edition of the fashion showcase.

The ‘Rebirth Collection’ as described by the designer consisted of all-white men’s and women’s wear pieces that were anything but understated.

The collection featured many futuristic details such as exaggerated shoulders, peplum belts, split pants and many others. Here are some highlights of this collection and why some of the fashion predictions we may have noticed from this collection.

The larger-than-life accessories

Rarely do you get served with a collection that has its own accessories to match. And that is what makes this particular collection a win. The Rebirth Collection featured its own larger than life and statement accessories such as wide brim hats, peplum unisex belts, puffy sleeved kimonos and spike detailed sleeve jackets. These accessories are a sure win, because their versatility allows you to easily style them with the many other pieces in your everyday closet. The hats, for instance, would make a great compliment to your pool side look, and the peplum belts would be a great addition to your catsuit ensembles.

Fashion predictions

Thanks to this collection, we are able to get a glimpse of how adventurous and fun fashion is about to get. The men’s wear, for instance, included split hem pants, something we definitely would want to see being embraced pretty soon. There was also the body suit look that was made into a fashion statement with the puffy sleeved kimono,  and accessorised with layered pearls. The other fashion trend that we took note of with this collection was the heavily ruffled men’s tops, that would make a bold statement, if worn to a red carpet affair or possibly a campaign shoot.
