Makerere University has suspended fresher’s ball, Bazaars, and Porridge nights following violence that showed cased during the 87th fresher’s ball held Friday 18 last week.
According to the letter issued by the Dean of students Ms. Winifred Kabumbuli, the suspension of the trio followed a meeting held by the university central management on Monday.
“Makerere University cannot tolerate the incessant culture of violence that characterizes students’ social activities lately, particularly the fresher’s ball, Bazaars and Porridge nights. Management resolved that the fresher’s ball, Bazaars and Porridge nights are suspended indefinitely and these activities shall no longer be permitted at the university until further notice” The letter reads in part.

The party which was headed by singer Edrisa Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo was dominated by a lot of violence and ‘hooliganism’. The violence left singer Fik Faimeca injured after a bottle was targeted on his head in the wee hours of the night.
The 2022 Fresher’s ball was the first welcoming party for freshmen and women after a two-year closure of all public gatherings as a result of COVID-19 that wreak havoc in Uganda.
