NEW YEAR NEW YOU: A little cliche but yeah, that’s a motto that should never die. With every beginning, let’s aspire to be a better version of ourselves.
As we come to the climax of the year, I would like to thank you all for sticking with us throughout the years. Keeping your eyes glued on this column is what has made writing it each year worthwhile, and definitely fun. I am very excited and thrilled to see what the new year will bring and can only hope it brings lots of laughter, love and fresh opportunities for you all. And with that will also be many fashion trends that you can splurge on throughout the year.
These are what we predict will be reigning supreme in the fashion arena in 2022, and what should be on your must-have list.
Oversized shirts
This was a personal favourite, and I loved to see all the ways this trend was executed by the different fashionistas. This is still going to be a hit in the new year, and it can be styled in so many ways. You can wear your oversized shirt over your micro skinny jeans, mini skirt or with your bedazzled tights and some boots.
Pull this look off better, by inventing new and style-approved ways to wear it. That means you will stay away from the basics and explore more style-savvy ways, like throwing a sweater vest over your shirt or by simply adding your micro blazer over it. Remember fashion is all about experimenting, so get as creative as you can.
Shiny clothing
Blind out the negativity in your life with this fashion trend. Your choices range from sequins or metallics, and whichever your choice is. Ensure that you wear it in a way that says you know your way around these fashion streets.
The beauty about this trend is that it doesn’t have to be something you simply wear for your formal occasions; it is quite easy to fit this into your daily routine.
You can do this by wearing it in minimal pieces, for a day time look, and go all out for the night time version.
Drapes
Singer Pia Pounds had a beautiful version for this trend with the red number she wore for the video redo of her trendy single, Twende Tupaate. The draping detail is not only a great way to add fun and structure to your look; it is also very fashion forward, and going to be haute in this coming year.
The beauty about this is you can also wear it with your dresses, tops, or even your skirts. And while at it, be sure to go as hard on the accessories so your look isn’t left hanging.
