President Museveni is this Friday expected to address the nation on Covid-19 situation, reopening the economy and also deliver his New Year message as Ugandans wind down 2021 which many have described as one of the most challenging years following the virus-induced lockdown imposed by government in March last year.
According to the senior presidential press secretary, Lindah Nabusayi Wamboka, the president’s address will be televised live at 8pm.
“President Museveni will this Friday December 31, 2021 address the nation at 8pm from Rwakitura, Kiruhura District on New Year message, Covid-19 updates,” Lindah tweeted on Tuesday evening arousing anxiety among several people, especially those who survive on night life and the entertainment industry which has been under lockdown for the last two years after the first Covid-19 case was confirmed in the country.
Among such people is socialite and televison host, Sheilah Gashumba who, after Lindah’s tweet, appealed to the president to keep his word for by fully reopening the economy like he pledged recently.
“All I’m asking from President @KagutaMuseveni on 31st December during his National address is not to break our hearts!! For once, keep your word please!! I mean this from the bottom of my heart,” tweeted the 25-year-old social media influencer who’s also the daughter of renowned Ugandan social and political commentator, Frank Gashumba.

But Sheilah is not alone. Several other entertainers, including comedian Patrick Idringi, popularly known as Patrick Salvado also seem to share her sentiments.
He tweeted “Dear @KagutaMuseveni and @MinofHealthUG I tested positive of the Omicron virus some days ago, and after being consistent with drinking whiskey I’m now negative …basically my home bar made me recover – Kati imagine what opening bars will do for others .. are we together?”

President Museveni during one of his recent televised addresses said he would fully reopen the economy in January 2022 even as government is struggling to inoculate the targeted 22 million Ugandans.
So far, 11.37 million vaccine jabs have been administered across the country, out of the 32 million doses received since March this year.
