ON THE RED CARPET: The red-carpet is not yet dead and from the weekend, we saw the stars bring their best foot forward at the BET Awards.
As I was previewing the red carpet turn up from the just-concluded BET Awards, it was hard not to notice how all the females made it a point to have plenty (and in some cases too much) skin on show.
I almost thought the invite memo read, “The more skin you can show, the better!” However, there were definitely a few parental guided looks that are worth noting and applauding for sure.
Here are some fashion ideas we picked from the Black culture themed big night.
Save up for some Versace
Owning some authentic Versace should be a fashion goal for anyone reading this column. And that is backed by how stunning Taraji. P. Henson looked in her ensemble on the red carpet. The actress, who was also hosting the event stepped out in an Atelier Versace’s spring/summer 2020 collection black number that featured a knotted flowy skirt, with the brand’s signature print. This may be way out of your financial reach, but the moral of the story is that owning some designer isn’t such a bad thing!
Add some sparkle to your life
Saweetie, the “Icy Girl” hit maker gave us a quick reminder on why sparkle is forever and very much needed in our lives.
Her off red carpet look, which I personally preferred compared to her first look, was a Dolce & Gabbana red sparkly red number that featured a thigh split and plenty of cleavage room for the girls. It’s the sparkle that is winning all through this!
Africa is the future!
Although he didn’t win at the award ceremony, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz was winning all the way with his Swahili-inspired traditional look. For an event whose theme was, “culture’s biggest night”, the Tanzanian star definitely understood the memo and the culture was well represented! This look was head to toe perfection!
White is for champs!
Nigerian musical giant Burna Boy was setting our hearts racing all the kilometers in his all-white Dolce & Gabbana suit, accessorised with tractor sole shoes and layered neck pieces. The Best International Act award recipient kept his look edgy and absolutely deserving of a winner. And who said suited up looks have to always be basic and boring!
