Music is my side hustle – Danz Eko

Daniel Kikomeko alias DanZ Eko is a versatile person with skills in both visual and performing arts. He is also known to many as a perfectionist. He is known for songs like ‘Gimme Love’, ‘Balibayo’, ‘Yo Not Lonely’, and ‘Sirwana’ among others. Nicholas Akasula caught up with him for a one on one interview and here are the excerpts.

Why did you join music?

My love for music, singing and my ability to create music.

So who is  DanZ  Eko?

I am versatile person with skills in both visual and performing arts. Am a perfectionist and sometimes they regard me a person with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Tell us your music background?

 My music started way back in my childhood participating in music, dance and drama school activities which was a great piller to groom me as an artiste.

My family, they have been supportive in my music journey, they have been number one fans of and have invested heavily in me. And I am grateful to them (The Munene’s).

What has been your saddest moment since you joined the music industry?

I started doing music professionally during lockdown and whatever I was doing wasn’t consumed as much as I expected. I didn’t have direct contact with my fans. 

Who inspired you to join music?

 I am inspired by the legendary artists because I want to be like them.

How would you describe the music that you create?

My music is love, entertainment and Godly. I cut cross all genres depending on the vibe and the people I want to serve at the time. Being a Deejay and with a great composition skill i just love creating good music I do hip-hop, Afro pop, RnB and Kidandali.

Lately, your songs are receiving massive airplay, what contributed to this?

Having a great management team is the magic behind it. Sukuma entertainment is my management team which guides me in song writing, production and promotion. They have helped me on double premier of the tending songs now in uganda (Mukidongo and Vibe). Thanks too to my online promotion team Danz Eko fans pages has been good at pushing and connecting my brand with media houses such as TV, Radio stations,  print media and Deejays.

 Who writes your songs?

I write most of my songs but on my new album I have put great writers like Dokita Brain and Ink Stained. 

Which  artists would you wish to collaborate with?

I love to work with all great artists, I have something dropping soon with a female artist.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t music?

Actually, music is not my full time job. Am a graphic designer, and business man in Seattle Washington. Music is my side gig.

What has been your greatest challenge in the ug  music industry?

Inability to do a performance. Lots of my fans are yarning to see me on stage

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Enforcing copyright law where the creators benefits from their creations

 What’s next for you?

 More music from Danz Eko with collaborations both local and international. Am venturing into videography business too in seattle Washington.
