Last year was a pretty boring one for those passionate about sports due to the public health situation that pretty much shut down every event in all corners of the globe. In many countries, this year won’t be any different – but there are still some major events that will, indeed, be held. With all the necessary precautions and measures taken, of course. So, whip out your phone, download the Betway app, and mark your calendar for the beginning of these major events that will be not just fun to follow but also to bet on at Betway this year.
2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Qatar won the bid to host the next edition of the FIFA World Cup, held in 2022 – coincidentally, it will be the 22nd edition of the event. The construction of the venues set to host the matches is well underway – and so are the qualifiers meant to decide which teams will have a chance to represent their countries in Qatar.
The first leg of the group stage matches has been played this spring, with teams like Sweden, Italy, France, Denmark, and England, among others, performing great so far. The second leg matches are scheduled for September, bringing more high-stakes international soccer action for all fans of the sport.
Summer Olympics
Tokyo should have hosted the Summer Olympics last year but the ongoing crisis has hindered them from actually seeing it through. Instead, the 2020 Summer Olympics will be held this year. And, according to the latest news, the games are moving ahead as scheduled, set to begin on 23 July, 2021.
The games will feature 339 events in 33 different sports, including traditional disciplines like swimming, and more modern and exciting sports like wall climbing, BMX and mountain biking, as well as freestyle wrestling. All in all, it will be a great event with many exciting sports to bet on.
UEFA Euro 2020
Last but not least, let us mention the biggest European football event of the year – postponed from last year due to reasons we all know: the Euro 2020. The event’s group stage will begin in early June in venues across Europe, followed by a high-stakes knockout phase to begin in late June and lasting into mid-July, when the long-awaited UEFA Euro 2020 Final will finally (pun intended!) take place, a year after it was originally scheduled.
The tournament comes with exciting betting opportunities, ranging from the winners of each individual group to high-profile matches played by great teams in the later phases of the tournament – not to mention the high-stakes final itself set to be played on July 11th at the Wembley Stadium in London.
