Cindy is one of the artistes vying for the position of president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA). The king herself has been the vice president of the association, having replaced Ykee Benda who took up the president’s position when Sophie Gombya quit. When we asked how different the association will be if elected to office, Cindy said she wants to build the industry as opposed to lifting individuals.
“Artistes are so hungry that if you don’t show up with bread they won’t listen to you. But the truth is that UMA is not a relief or charity organisation. I don’t want them to expect that I will give them food,” she said.
She added that she wants the government to give the industry powers so that they can stand independently.
