I followed kadodi dancers, lost my way home – Marcah

Up close. She is a known actress, poet, theatre artist, TV host and a vixen who caught the attention of many when she starred in Bobi Wine’s song Aidah. Spark TV host Caroline Marcah Mirembe talked to Gabriel Buule about her childhood.

First thing you do when you wake up…
When I am late, I drag myself to the shower. If I am in time I stay in bed for at least 20 minutes for prayer and plan my day.

What type of music do you listen to…
Soul music (especially by Maurice Kirya or Pompi any day) though I am a Mowzey Radio diehard.

First thing you do when you get to work…
Look for my producer, director and DJ so that we prepare an hour before the show.

Earliest childhood memory…
I followed a crowd that was dancing kadodi (played for circumcision candidates and escorts who dance along as they move from one village to another as demanded by the Gishu custom). I ended up in Ntinda and I had walked all the way from Kyebando. I could not find my way back home.
I slept at the chairman’s home and the next morning my parents picked me up from Radio Simba in Bukoto where the chairman had reported me as a missing child.

First best friend…
Leticia because she was a class below me and our mothers were close friends. Our elder sisters were also in the same class at Kitante Primary School. Leticia passed on in 2016.

First relationship…
I had a cool boyfriend when I was in Senior Four. He was in Senior Six, bought me lunch and he used to escort me home. However, I will not say his name for props.

First film you watched….
I cannot tell the exact one but I recall watching some family content and television series. And, just like most people in my age bracket, I never missed out on Power Rangers, Teletubbies and Prison Break.

Your first job…
Collecting money from my father’s workers. He had taxis and they would bring the day’s collections to me at home. I would deliver to the boss and he would pay me Shs1,000 per week. On the side, I was a poetess at the National Theatre.

Your first salary was…
I cannot disclose that.

Current job (s)…
I am the host of CHEZAdotCOM at Spark TV, public relations manager of CRK events and artiste manager at Bantu Production Holdings Ug.

What do you like most about your job…?
I get to meet new people almost every day, I get to do what I love most, and journalism was my dream from day one.

Which doors has your job opened up for you?
The list is endless. I get paid to travel.

Most memorable experience…
On the morning of January 16, 2018, I was delivered of my first son. I am grateful to God.

Biggest regret in life…
None, I thank God for every step. What goes wrong becomes an experience to learn from.

Best advice you have ever received…
My Godfather said do what you love most, you will be happy; do all you can and leave the rest to God. Unfortunately, he passed on in an accident this month.

What hypes you before going on TV?
I am my own hype. As long as the DJ is doing it right, I am good to go. Bad music really turns me off.

Quick notes

When I officially started my TV journey at Nation Media Group five years ago.
