The Kampala International University Law Society over the weekend engaged in a car wash that raised Shs2.3m for a one Daniel Rugero, a second year law student who sustained injuries after he fell off 4th floor of Elite Hostel in Kansanga.
The 2-day car wash saw people flock the university premises to have their cars washed in a bid to save a life. Rugero who was receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital was later discharged with a bill amounting to Ugsh13m.
K.I.U Law Society President, Moses Osiya who spearheaded the campaign said Rugero’s family got in touch with him seeking on how he could help them get some help from the university. “We tried to move with the letters here and there but we were only able to generate Shs 250,000 which could do nothing out of the 13million. We then decided to organise a two day carwash,” he explains.
Osiya adds that the money will cater for part of the medical expenses as an offer from the students’ body. The car wash was organised by the K.I.U Law society members of the public were invited to be part of the cause.
Osiya also called upon the university students to come up with a ‘Save a life’ box at the University for such eventualities that may occur.
“Today it could be Daniel, tomorrow it could be someone else. We believe with such boxes around, people/students can drop some money that can assist a person in a long run. The university can also put up an insurance policy that can save students for such unplanned events.”
Daniel is currently having physiotherapy at home and his memory is still not fully restored. Flock
