The second edition of the newly created Uganda’s arts and music event dubbed UNCC annual Arts and Culture Festival has kicked off today with traditional performances, art sales among other activities.
Happening at the National Theatre, the event will for the next three days showcase stage plays and a blend of Afro-fused music with live band performances on the main stage that is in the National Theatre parking yard.
Robert Musiitwa the public relations manager of the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) revealed that the lineup of confirmed performers includes Afrigo Band, Hytham Ssali Muserebende, Afrie’, Andereya Baguma, Myco Ouma among others most of who fuse afro beats to come up with their music.
However, he added that there would be sessions meant for films, stage plays and dance in the auditorium as well as cultural groups from various regions.
In a twist of cultures, there will be an Indian troupe whose performance was confirmed by Durga Dass the second secretary in charge of Media, Information and Culture at the High Commission of India in Kampala, during his visit at the Uganda National Cultural Centre.
This year’s festival will be celebrated under the theme “Culture for Sustainable Tourism.”
