For over five month dancer and choreographer Priscah Atite together with Dance Adventure Studios have been creating a dance piece directed to curb gender based violence among young women.

Atite who is part of the team and one of the producers explained that the dance is a creation of young women who intend to raise their voices with the use of creative arts in advocating against gender based violence to promote peace and unity in communities.

“The initiative is aimed at building the capacity of 1000 young people and 100 artists to be able to use creative arts to reach out to communities and join the fight against gender based violence” Atite said.

Atite adds that the dance piece that will grace the National theatre floor on 23rd October 201 will be a telltale of stories of gender based violence where young people will be telling their experience through dance.

She concluded that with time, the project will also find its way into communities in Uganda and the rest of the world, “We seek to strengthen the capacity of young people and performing artists to use creative arts to narrate their stories of GBV to create awareness in the communities.”

This piece comes to theatre following  a series of dance performances redirected to issues of social good which include Sukaali on Bride price and Sisobola Kusa on Climate Change where also Atite perfomed.
