Talking music: Nigerian Singer Allen Esegine a.k.a Orezi was in Uganda recently and did a song Sweet Sensation with Sheebah Karungi. Lawrence Ogwal caught up with him on his collabo with Sheebah and Uganda’s entertainment industry.
1. Who was behind Sweet Sensation? You or Sheebah?
I made the record and shared it with a friend in Uganda called Hassan, who later shared it with Jeff Kiwa, Sheebah’s manager and boom, that is how the collaboration happened. I did not charge her for featuring on the song, it was a collaboration where both parties put in effort to make it work.
2. What does it feel like tapping into the Ugandan music industry?
It feels great. I have always had fans in Uganda because of my songs such as Rihanna and Booty Bounce, but since we released Sweet Sensation, the fanbase has increased. So many Ugandans are reaching out to me on my social media handles; Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, telling me how much they love my music which makes me feel so good.
3. Tell us about your video shoot. Are there things you did not like about the experience?
One thing I did not like during the shoot was the attitude of some of the girls (vixens) on set. They were not bringing out the energy we wanted for the shoot and I had to walk one out of the set. Even Sheebah at some point had to force the director to switch the positions of some girls.
4. What are some of the things you learnt while working with a Ugandan artiste?
There was nothing really new. When you feel someone’s vibe or music, it always makes the process of working with them interesting and that is how I felt but I am looking forward to working with more Ugandan and East African artistes.
5. How do you find Sheebah as a person?
Sheebah is a sweet soul, a very talented artiste who has so much energy. I loved her vibe and truthfully, I also love her booty and would love to get her pregnant.
