At least seven (7) regional cultural groups have been confirmed to perform at the upcoming annual Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) Cultural Festival that is set to take Place at the National Theatre in Kampala from 1st – 3rd November 2019.
Among the Seven groups include; Nebbi based Alur Kingdom troupe, Basoga Bakoberana, Batwa Cultural troupe, Tukole Namanyi Community Association Cultural troupe (TUNAC), Mugahinga Cultural Troupe and Super Eagle derives.
National theatres’ Robert Musiitwa who led the scouting team explained that the team worked hand in hand with the Cultural institutions in the areas that helped identify groups from which the best were selected.
The team comprised both UNCC management team and artists among them; Suzan Kerunen (Pearl Rhythm Festival), Dr. Michael Muhuumuza (Makerere University department of Performing Art and Film), Okeng George (Culture Officer UNCC) and Maureen Mutonyi (Heritage Officer UNCC).
Musiitwa says that the team went to the East in Kamuli and Mbale, Kalongo in Agago and Nebbi, Kisoro, Kabale and Hoima.
This years’ theme for the festival is “Culture for sustainable tourism” as it looks to link culture to tourism; which resonates with UNCC’s Mission to promote and popularize Ugandan culture locally and globally.
Besides Music and art, Festival will also host Cultural food exhibitions, prominent pop artists, symposia and guests from Turkey and Ghana.
