Over a month ago, comedienne radio personality and photographer, Martha Kagimba, popularly known as Martha Kay’s nude photos were circulated on social media like a wild fire. Apparently, she had been robbed of her phones where the thieves extracted nudes that they circulated on social media. Today, Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded two men that are suspected to have committed the crime.
The suspects known as Herbert Arinaitwe alias John Paul, 27, a business man in Rubaga division and Farid Mukiibi, 34. In a session presided over by the Chief Magistrate Ms Miriam Okello the duo denied charges ranging from aggravated robbery, demanding property with menaces with intent to steal and cyber stalking.
Prosecution contends that Arinaitwe and Mukiibi and others still at large between April 10 and 11 in Kampala robbed Martha Kay of two mobile phones which included; Samsung Galaxy S8 gold in colour and IPhone X black in colour. They are as well accused robbing their victim (Martha) of her money purse containing her Stanbic bank ATM card, her driving permit and cash Shs400,000.
It is stated that before the said robbery they used a substance called scopolamine (commonly known as devils breath) on Martha making her to lose her consciousness. On the count of demanding property with threats it is stated that the duo and others still at large between April 10 and May 31, in Kampala demanded Shs10m from Martha with intent to steal.
The duo is also accused of willfully, maliciously and repeatedly using electronic communication to harass their victim, with intent to place her under reasonable fear for her safety. In May, this year Martha’s photos leaked just days after those of Shawula Kasule, the daughter to a Muslim cleric did, the nude videos were shared on social media.
On June 5, the Pornographic Control Committee (PCC) officers tasked with the responsibility of curbing the vice, picked interest in the issue of Martha nudes circulating on the internet. They summoned Martha and Shawula to the committee how their pics ended up in the public.
Court adjourned the matter to August 19 for mention.
After the whole incident, Martha Kay has never come out to say anything about the matter, she also gave social media, and her job at Radio a break.
Socialite Zarinah Hassan popularly known as Zari, Judith Heard and singer, Desire Luzinda, are some of the people who have been investigated for pornography after their nude photos leaked.
