If you thought Kampala Fashion Week was the biggest fashion event on the Ugandan calendar then prepare to make way for Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW). The event was launched 16 years ago by renowned Fashion Designer Santa Anzo of ARAPAPA.
It last happened in 2008 and this year, it has re-launched with major partners that include The Department of Arts and Culture, The Republic of South Africa, Plascon Paints and Uganda Tourism Board. UIFW will take place at Kampala Serena Hotel from August 3 to 4.
Speaking at a Press Conference held earlier today at Serena Hotel, Santa Anzo said that Fashion, like Petroleum and Gas, Communication and Tourism, Agriculture and Transport, Finance and banking is a multi-billion industry awaiting to be exploited and the time is now. She went on and said that the event will focus on emphasizing the Business Behind Fashion, to magnify the potential of fashion for swift economic development in Africa.
Besides just showcases on the runway, it is said that this year’s UIFW will have panel discussions from fashion designers like Fatumah Asha, Stella Atal, Abbas Kai, Paula Butagira and Arapapa by Santa Anzo herself.
