Oliver Nakakande has emerged the winner of Miss Uganda 2019/2020 after beating 21 other contestants. Nakakande took over the crown from Quinn Abenakyo who was Miss Uganda 2018/19 and also represented Uganda in Miss World where she emerged 2nd runner up and also crowned Miss World Africa.
The pageant that took place at Kampala Sheraton Hotel gardens on Friday in a well-built tent had different sections with VVIP, VIP and Ordinary. The people in the ordinary section despite paying Shs40,000 could hardly see what was happening on stage as most of them settled for a big screen that was put in front of them and that was where they cheered and caught up with the event.
22 contestants took to the runway and something was noticed. Most of these contestants carried to the venue a team to moral boost them with many having placards of their images and names. The ones with the loudest cheers were Nakakande’s team and their efforts didn’t go to waste as they left victors. The first stage of eliminations were not clear to the revelers which after they explained having had a private Q and A with the contestants the previous night. Elizabeth Bagaya was 1st runner up and Mariam Nyamatte was 2nd runner up.
Besides crowning, artiste Grenade came and get the crowd a moment of music as he performed some of his songs. Myco Ouma and Jose Sax also had time to make their instruments talk. They played songs like ‘Wankona’, ‘On The Low’ and ‘Case’ among others on the Guitar and Saxophone.
At the end of the night, Nakakande drove away in her brand new Toyota Wish Red in Colour and branded Miss Uganda.
