When it was announced that the king of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi would be the chief guest at Messach Semakula’s ‘Bwagamba’ concert, few people believed.
However, the ‘Njagala Ngabwendi’ singer on Friday night made history when it was confirmed that the king was one of the revellers at his music concert at Hotel Africana Nile Hall.
Kabaka Mutebi was seated in a reserved area upstairs directly facing the stage while the rest of the revellers were seated down and in other sections. He seemed to be enjoying as every artist at the show tried so hard to impress during their performance; first by performing songs related to Buganda culture and then paying their respect.
Other artists like Mathias Walukagga, Bebe Cool, Catherine Kusasira, Dr Hilderman and Ronald Mayinja all performed at least one traditional song out of the two they were given while Rema Namakula, Pr Wilson Bugembe and Lydia Jazmine concentrated more on their hits.
The main performer, Messach Semakula was seemingly stunned by the king’s presence describing the show as his biggest since he started singing several years ago.
From his performance, it was evident that ‘Musaja wa Kabaka’ had well prepared for his show.
This was seen from his choice of songs and delivery. He performed in three sessions making sure the audience received their money’s worth.
Sigwe Ansimila’, Njagala Ngabwendi’, ‘Kulika Baby’, ‘Ntongo’Abakazi Abaguuma’ and ‘Bwagama’ are some of the songs he performed before handing out accolades to some of the people who have supported his music journey.
Despite having fallen out with artist like Geoffrey Lutaya, Stecia Mayanja and Hajji Haruna Mubiru, with whom they were in the same band at the beginning, Messach lauded Eagles Production where they all started out and said he still held them in high regards.
