Bobi Wine’s career as a musician is long dead, according to fellow singer and one of Uganda’s self-claimed legend Bebe Cool.

Bebe Cool real name Moses Ssali, said the Kyadondo East MP has not had a hit song for the last four years while he (Bebe) has had over 20 hit songs in just five months.

“Musically, Bobi Wine died four years ago. Right now he is talked about because of political favour but not music. If you’re to talk about his Kyarenga song, then I will also bring Tubonga nawe which was a hit and popular among Ugandans at the time we released,” Bebe said while appearing on Spark TV’s Koona ne Miles Rwamiti|, to addres the nation on the state of the music industry.

With a list of songs and several music albums to his name, Bobi Wine joined Parliament in July 2017 and has proved a serious political threat to President Museveni who has been in power since 1986.

However, in a veiled attack to the 37-year-old singer-cum-politician, Bebe Cool argues that Bobi’s popularity should not be mistaken with his technical knowledge to run Uganda.

“Uganda is a developing country and so many things will happen. People will keep trying everything to survive. It’s very okay for Bobi Wine to quit music and join politics. The worry is, is that the politician we I want! I’m among the silent majority and an NRM member. Apart from Uganda, there’s no other country in the whole world where you’re free to do what you want. That’s why you even see musicians joining politics. The real challenge is on the needs of Ugandans. Do those politicians have the qualifications and knowledge to run the offices they’re yearning for?” Bebe added.

Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi recently expressed his interest to contest for president in the 2021 general elections against President Museveni, 74.

However, Bebe doesn’t believe Bobi has the knowledge to run Uganda.

“I like Bobi Wine for being opportunistic and exploiting the political gap in Kyadondo to enter Parliament. However, I don’t like his radical stance. We are looking for people to solve Uganda’s problems and not jokers joining politics. Politics is not about popularity; it’s about intelligence and technical knowhow. If Bobi Wine doesn’t have the brains to make the final worthy decisions, then he’s not fit for that president,” he added.

Earlier when asked why many local musicians are abandoning the industry to join politics, Rubaga North MP-cum-comedian, Kato Lubwama responded saying it’s because of excitement and lack of creativity.

“Most artists want to become politicians out of excitement. Most of them have a problem of arrivalism. They jump on everything. They are not original. After hearing that Kato Lubwama and Bobi Wine became MPs, most of them want to be like us, forgetting that you need a lot of time to understand politics before joining it. For instance, I have been in politics since 1980 when I joined the Democratic Party (DP) but some people assume I joined politics yesterday,” said Kato Lubwama.
