President Yoweri Museveni on March 3 encouraged Indian film-makers to promote Uganda’s beauty and investment potential through films adding that government is willing to support them.
Led by Bharat Dabholkar, the Bollywood actors met with the President at State Lodge in Nakasero. He urged them to bring more tourists from India to Uganda where they can enjoy Uganda’s beautiful culture, nature and beautiful weather.
The President said linkages between Uganda and India has the potential to boost trade and investment.
He also noted that the huge population of Africa, China and India is a huge potential for the future economic development of the world.
Mr Bharat Dabholkar who is also a movie director, actor, writer and advertising expert informed the President that they want to promote Uganda as the tourist destination for Indians. He said that they also want to promote Uganda as a location for filming Bollywood movies where Ugandans will participate.
Hindi cinema commonly known as Bollywood is the Indian Hindi language film industry based in Mumbai, Maharashtra India.
Bharat said they have plans to bring big film tourists to Uganda saying that film tourism will be a big deal. Uganda has featured in several movies including the more recent Black Panther that has won numerous awards.
Uganda’s High Commissioner to India Grace Akello who accompanied the delegation said Uganda’s beauty is great potential for film-makers and will open up opportunities for many Ugandans in terms of jobs creation.
Meanwhile, local film makers are skeptical about the project and fear that Ugandan movie actors, producers and directors will not benefit from it.
