Chaos as men invade police post in fight over woman

Two people have sustained injuries arising out of a fight over a woman.

According to eye witnesses, two groups of male youth fought each other in Mpaija cell, Busiisi division in Hoima municipality on Sunday night as each group wanted to take charge of a lady.

The fight resulted into the damaging of a red Bajaj motorcycle registration number UDL 025 T BAJAJ.

According to police, the opposing group reorganized, attacked the rival group and confiscated from them a red Bajaj motor cycle registration number UED 649.

Police responded to the incident and impounded the two motorcycles.

However one group attacked Kasingo police post in an attempt to recover the motorcycle, the Albertine regional police spokesperson Mr Julius Hakiza said.

Police shot in the air to disperse the invading group but the group kept advancing towards the cops.

A police constable reportedly shot the legs of two of the youth, Hakiza said.

Police identified the injured as one Aliganyira, 25 and Irumba, 45. They are admitted at Hoima regional referral hospital nursing injuries.

Mr David Kamita, a police constable who is suspected to have shot the injured has been arrested, Hakiza said.

The constable is being held at Hoima central police station.

A riffle NO. UG POL 56- 131005755 CODE 20777 with 14 rounds of ammunition have been recovered as exhibits.

The incident is being investigated under reference SD REF: 06/03/02/2019 at Hoima central police station.
