Legendary American jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum returns to Uganda

Kirk Whalum

2019 may be one of those years that will house as many high end concerts. Just last week, our brothers and sisters in Christ had one with Don Moen and before the dust settles, Rotary Uganda has announced a concert with American saxophonist Kirk Whalum.

The concert is part of Rotary’s charity drive that has been going on for years, then it was to raise money to build a blood bank at Mengo hospital, though this time round, they are looking at equipping the bank.

This will be the second time Whalum will be performing in Uganda after performing at one of the many Jazz Safari editions that was held at Serena Hotel, the same space he will be performing at come March 7.

For Rotary, this will be the second concert of a kind in two years after hosting a successful fundraiser that was headlined by Hugh Masekela and Isaiah Katumwa back in 2017.

Whalum is a respected artiste in the jazz circles having played with Whitney Houston, Jonathan Butler, Baby Face and Luther Vandross among others. He is a 12 time Grammy awards nominee and has released over 20 studio albums.
