What was perhaps a simple empathetic post on her Facebook wall may not end well for singer Desire Luzinda.

The pop singer on Monday posted a screenshot of a photo of fellow singer Chosen Becky in which a social media fan commented about her nose.

In the post, the ‘Kitone’ singer said she ‘stumbled’ on the fast rising star’s picture in her Facebook news feeds and was ‘disturbed.’

“Being a celebrity does not make one immune from the power of cyberbullies – as some pop stars discovered for themselves, when they became targets of the trolls. Some of us have been bullied and talked to so many piercing words and we have grown thick skin and we have managed to persevere, but what about those that do not have thick skin?? Until you are a victim, you would never understand how this feels fatal. We do not have to wait to fall victims to rise or act,” reads part of Luzinda’s post accompanying the screenshot.

Some of her followers however, found it offensive for Luzinda to post the screenshot while others asked her for a collabo with the 18-year-old star popularly known for her 2018 single ‘Bankuza.’

One of Luzinda’s followers, Nguse Sara said she was not helping the situation by sharing Becky’s photo.

“ U didn’t have to repost dis picture u woman, yo not helping de situation hia..” she said.

Lymon Trix said “U too yo making it worse. Have seen u mentioning “nose” somewhere.”

For Makaveli Francis, she had not noticed Becky’s nose until Luzinda shared the photo.

“Imagine I hadn’t noticed her nose not until you hinted on it,,,you’re such a big bully,,,just stop it,” she said.

However, Hajarah Aswiirah commented saying “Can’t wait for your collabo and her.”Over time, Luzinda has been a victim of social media bouts for several reasons including leaked nude pictures and sex tape.

I stumbled on this picture that I found in my Facebook news feeds and I was disturbed ( note that it is the first time ).
Cyber bullying is a growing problem because of increasing usage and embrace of online interactivity. I am talking about internet congregate mediums like Snapchat, Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter, instagram, tick tock, YouTube, Pintetest and others.

I AM sure some, if not all of you have experienced internet fights. Others launch diss-grenades against others and we are negligently docile enough to think it is fashionable. It is NOT!

The misuse of social media is on fast rise.
It is sad that we all think if we want to relieve stress, pass time… We should go to social media instead of using these platforms to do business and congregate for much healthy motives.

A good international instance is of Demi Lovato, who has suffered personally at the hands of bullies and online trolls, but it was the suicide of Phoebe Prince in 2010 which inspired her to pen a letter for Seventeen magazine urging young people to stop tormenting others.

Well, I am not missioned to teach you how to RIGHTLY use social media, I am no saint.

Ate Nekirala, being a celebrity does not make one immune from the power of cyberbullies – as some pop stars discovered for themselves, when they became targets of the trolls.
Some of us have been bullied and talked to so many piercing words and we have grown thick skin and we have managed to persevere, but what about those that do not have thick skin ??

The picture below is of Chosen Becky, a fast rising home artiste. She is an 18 year old who is trying to be somebody. Then you wonder at someone that chose to pick and capitalise on her God modelled ‘nose’ and put her down forgetting there will always be someone richer, someone prettier, someone who dresses better than the other and so is the world we live in, we cannot be the same.
There’s absolutely no need to focus on such demeaning features to put someone down.

People have lost self esteem because of social media remarks, our brothers and sisters have lost their lives, their dreams, themselves… Name it.
Until you are a victim, you would never understand how this feels fatal. We do not have to wait to fall victims to rise or act.

What does it cost you to LOVE, to support one another, to mind your own business??
It starts with you in civil society organisations, academia, churches and political leadership to build on the ongoing conversation around cyber-bullying to make this world a better place.
