Father kills son for crying

Grief gripped residents of Odur Village, Lamogi Sub-county in Amuru District on Monday after a father allegedly killed his one-year-old son for over crying.
The suspect allegedly killed the son when he returned home and found the boy crying ceaselessly.

It is alleged that the father hit the deceased several times on the ground before the toddler succumbed to injuries.
The boy’s mother was away harvesting potatoes in the garden about half a kilometre from home.
Mr Victor Loum, the LC1 chairperson of Odur Village, said the children who were playing with the deceased watched helplessly as the father tormented his son.

Fleeing the scene
Mr Loum said the suspect fled after the boy died inside the hut.
However, police later arrested and took him to Alero Police Post in the neighbouring Nwoya District.
Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, Aswa River Region police spokesperson, said he had not yet received a report about the incident.

In August last year, a man was arrested by police in Pader for allegedly killing his 7-year-old son for refusing to go to school.
The Uganda violence against children survey report released last year in August showed that three in four children in Uganda have experienced some form of violence.
Among the three primary forms of violence surveyed sexual, physical and emotional. One in three children have experienced at least two of these, a trend that worries child rights advocates.
