On New Year’s Day, legendary songbird Juliana Kanyomozi tweeted that she would soon release a video for her song Omukwano Ogwedda.
“The smile I put on knowing God has my back… NEW VIDEO DROPPING SOON!!!! OMUKWANO OGWEDDA,” she tweeted.
While many of her followers were excited by the news and congratulated her upon reaching the New Year, one man who goes by the name Omujugujugu Moses decided to be the odd man out.
He replied to her tweet, “I pray you get married in 2019… #Webelelemu.”
On a normal day, any other woman would have lashed out at Omugujuguju over his comment, but Juliana was polite.
“You’re so kind but no thank you. None needed. Please save those prayers for your sisters,” she countered.
Lincoln Sayuni replied asking, “Aren’t you lonely?” to which Juliana answered, “But who said I am lonely, though?”
Juliana is certainly not the first or only woman who has faced such questions from the public. When it comes to dating and marriage, everyone has different plans with some choosing to remain single, others getting married, and others staying in romantic relationships with no plans to marry. And there are several reasons why some women choose to remain single; from being married to their careers to being married to their freedom or even just failing to find the right partner.
But in African society, a some people, like Omugujuguju, will not understand that.

To counter Juliana’s answer about saving the prayer for his sisters, he replied, “You see, it’s the sole reason you are not married…. Maama teyakukuza! Fortunately, all my sisters are happily married!”
His comments did not go well with some of Juliana’s fans.
“Where is it written that everyone must get married? @OmujugujuguM your concern is a myopic one,” a one Mwine Gihana interjected.
In his defence again, Omugujuguju said, “In an African setting and as a Pan-Africanist, marriage is the ultimate goal of every adult… Join me to pray for her to get married!”
“Obviously those are your beliefs, and I respect that. They may not be the same for me; you need to respect that too. Again no prayers needed,” Juliana dropped the mic.
