Biri Biri is my song, not Radio’s

King Saha says he does not intend to engage in politics like other artistes because music is all he knows.

Vocal king: Rumour has it that Mansur Ssemanda, popularly known as King Saha, might just replace Radio in the Goodlyfe crew. As the star gears up for his Biri Biri concert tonight, Isaac Ssejjombwe catches up with him to clarify this and more.

1.Kyadondo Rugby Club humbled Fik Fameika yet he had a successful year. Besides January is a dry month, aren’t you nervous about holding a concert in the same venue?
We do a lot of shows without putting holidaymakers and the basummer into consideration. So we set this date knowing the consequences, but we are ready for anything. This is going to be my fourth concert and the previous shows have all sold out. We chose Kyadondo because it can accommodate so many fans.

2. We have seen you hanging around Weasel a lot lately and you have a collabo, Mpa Love, together. Are you replacing Mowzey Radio in Goodlyfe?
I have been friends with Goodlyfe for a long time and it was a pity that we lost Radio. He still remains one of the biggest vocalists in Uganda’s entertainment industry, so to answer your question, I am not replacing Radio. Weasel and I just work together the same way I work with Spice Diana and other artistes.
There are also rumours that Biri Biri was Radio’s song and I bought it, but I am a songwriter. I wrote Biri Biri in February last year as well as Mpa Love, which I did with Weasel.
We are living and working in a society that has both haters and those that love us. The haters will say anything to bring you down.

3. You had an outstanding 2018 with a number of hits and Sqoop magazine voted you as Artiste of the year. How did you feel about this?
I am so grateful to Sqoop magazine for believing in me and choosing me among the hundreds of musicians in Uganda. It is motivating and I am going to work even harder this year to reclaim the spot.

4. What is your take on musicians involving themselves in politics?
Everyone is free to do what they want so long as they have justification for it. You know everyone has their goals. An artiste is an artiste because he likes it that way and so does a politician, but if an artiste chooses that path, they are free to do so. As Saha, my job is to sing because it is what I know how to do.

5. What next after the concert?
I am releasing more music and will also release a song this evening. I do not want my fans to have doubts about me.
Last year we had so many musicians representing. We had some successful concerts such as Gravity’s, Chameleone’s, Levixone and others. It was a great year for the industry and it showed us that our fans love us so much.

On Bebe Cool’s list
He put me in 20th position and put himself in the 19th position but all I know is that I am number one. Bebe Cool is never serious even on important issues. He thinks the industry rotates around him.
