At 48, some artistes are probably retired and doing totally different things out of music but Ginuwine proved music is still his thing last evening at Speke Resort Munyonyo gardens during the Johnnie Walker Jazz and Soul safari.
Despite the uncertainties about the show, following some disagreements between the organizer Tshaka Mayanja and Speke resort, the show finally happened with many people turning up.
Before the American singer, Naava Grey, Maurice Kirya, Kenneth Mugabi and Aziz Azion put up a good live performance and when Ginuwine came on stage, it was totally another story all together. Many were doubting if he still has the dance moves that made people fall in love with him yet others were waiting for the jams they grew up listening to.
Although he is no longer flexible like he was 20 years ago, those waiting for the tracks were not disappointed as he took them back memory lane with songs like In those jeans, Same Ol’ , The best man I can be, Ginuwine for your mind and Hell ya, In those jeans and pony among others.
Elgin Baylor Lumpkin aka Ginuwine performed for an hour and 15 minutes and did two sessions, changing attires only once.
He even paid tribute to the late Aaliyah who was his close friend by performing her I miss you which he said he wrote as well as Michael Jackson’s The way you make me feel and Don’t stop till you get enough.
