Ugandan AfroBeat artiste Dr Jose Chameleone has said he left People Power, a political pressure group led by the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine, because he was denied a big political position.

Chameleone real name Joseph Mayanja openly told the politician cum musician of the Kyarenga fame that he won’t be associating with the group again.

The two were on stage on Friday night at Lugogo cricket oval where Chameleone was having his legendary concert dubbed ‘Sabasaba’.

“Honorable (Bobi Wine), you have like 10,000 bricks you added on the Ugandan music industry and God bless you for that. I left People Power because you denied me a big position,” Chameleone, the most popular musician of his generation in Uganda said in the popular Luganda dialect before miming part of Bobi Wine’s Singa and Kyerenga songs.

In his response, Bobi Wine who had been invited as a guest performer at Chameleone’s show celebrating 20 years of his contribution to the music industry jokingly said: “ It’s not about politics here and I don’t want to scare revelers. However, I want to thank Chameleone before everyone here for his enormous contribution to the music industry. I also thank God that at our age, we still see each other. Gone are the days when we used to fight.”

The two reminded themselves of the old days when they were arc h-rivals in the music industry. They then hugged each other and sang Bobi Wine’s Kyarenga hit together as the crowd chorused in approval.

It’s worth noting that Chameleone on August 30, 2018, visited Bobi Wine at Lubaga hospital following the latter’s return from prison after he was brutalised by security personnel in Arua Municipality.

Chameleone had previously come out with a long letter to the President calling for Bobi Wine’s release and pardoning.

However, Chameleone missed Bobi Wine’s November 10 Kyarenga show at Busabala even though he was part of the musicians who urged fans to turn up in big numbers and support a brother in the music industry.
