A pastor has been arrested in Jinja District in eastern Uganda over allegations of obtaining money by false pretense.
Kiza Robert Siringo, a pastor at Living Hope Church in Magamaga has allegdly been telling unsuspecting residents that he works in State House.
“Kiza has been obtaining money from the association (SACCO) claiming that he’s a State House official in the office of the president working with security and intelligence. He had so far obtained money to a tune of Shs28 million. The money was to facilitate officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Uganda Microfinance centre so that the SACCO could get a financial boost from the said offices,” said Kiira region DPC, SP Vincent Irama,
He has allegedly been obtaining money from some people with the promise that he would take them to the president to get some financial donations.
Police say Kiza who’s currently detained at Jinja Police Station was arrested after he went back to the same people asking for more money to facilitate the meeting with the President.
He will be arraigned in court next week and charged.
However, Kiza said the SACCO members asked for his account and wanted to use it for money transaction which he did.
Upon arrest, police say he was found with forged State House documents including an Identity Card.
“But when we crosschecked with State House, we found out that what he had was fake,” SP Irama added.
