The Kampala Cake Fair, an annual event that brings together cake and food enthusiasts is returning for its second edition which will be held on December 2 at the Uganda Museum grounds in Kampala.
The event is an annual showcase of a variety of cakes, desserts, accompanying foods and style in a colorful, fun-filled family day.
This year it’s attracting over 80 bakers building on the success of the previous edition and will also feature an after party with performances by Almost Famous DJ’s and Vinka.
The Fair which is being held under the theme “Celebrating Life with Cake” was launched at the Naguru Skyz Hotel.
“Some of the activities that will be held at this year’s fair include a celebrity bake-off, kid’s bake-off, cake eating competition and a main cake competition. We have also selected a team of six reputable pastry chefs who will adjudicate at the awards,” said Asha Batenga, the event organizer.
The celebrities who have been selected for the bake-off include Anne Kansiime, Roger Mugisha, Renzioni Hill, Gaetano, Laura Kahunde and Anita Beryl.
“With the unprecedented levels of unemployment in the country, we are pleased to support an initiative such as this one that brings together young people to showcase their skills in the craft of pastry baking. Many do not know but Baileys is actually part cake and part liqueur so we will be rewarding bakers who will ingeniously incorporate it into their recipes as an ingredient,” said Roger Agamba, International Premium Spirits Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries.
The main cake competition will see bakers compete in four categories; traditional, creative, wedding and starter.
