How do you recover from shame and guilt? In most cases, you either face the guilt and head on, or you apologise and make peace with the person you have offended.
But for 16-year old Kemigisa of Kasenge, Kyengera Town council, none of these were an option, after her father Mr Kiraka Mugisha caught her having sex in his marital bed, with her boyfriend.
To her, death was the only option, and so she hanged herself in her father’s bedroom.
It is reported that on Tuesday Afternoon when Mr Mugisha caught his daughter having sex in his bedroom, he dragged the couple to police, where a case of defilement was filed, after it was found out that her boyfriend Kelvin Yunus Kaddu was 18 years old.
Police however released Kemigisha whom they described as a minor.
Disturbed by the incidents of the day, Kemigisha’s father says he decided to spend the night at his shop, but was shocked when he returned home the next morning, to find his daughter hanging dead in his bedroom.
Mugisha screamed attracting neighbours’ attention and police was immediately invited.
“What Satan has invaded my home? What have I done to God to deserve this? What kind of curse is this? I am finished,” Mugisha reportedly shouted as he loitered around his compound.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident adding that investigations into the general case had commenced. He confirmed that preliminary medical examinations conducted at Nsangi police station had earlier proved that Kemigisha had been defiled.
“Her father said he spent the night at his shop perhaps he was annoyed by the daughter’s alleged action. He visited his home in the morning and was shocked to find his daughter hanging dead on a rope in his bedroom,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
The deceased had reportedly completed her Senior Four exams last Friday at Kawempe. Details of her alleged boyfriend were still scanty by press time. Owoyesigyire said detectives had embarked on investigations to establish all circumstances that led to Kemigisha’s hanging.
In June another Senior Three girl hanged herself inside her father’s house in Namungona Lubaga Division.
