Outrage as video of brutalised man goes viral- VIDEO

A video in which armed men wearing civilian clothes brutalised an unarmed Opposition Democratic Party (DP) supporter before kidnapping him in the centre of Kampala City on Thursday, has outraged several people who have angrily reacted on internet.

Social media users expressed their anger while responding to Record TV that shared the apparent viral video on their social media platforms.

The victim has been identified as Yusuf Kawooya, a member of the Opposition DP and supporter of the People Power, a mass political agenda that brings together different players who are convinced that Uganda urgently needs a new political leadership.

DP Spokesperson, Mr Kenneth Kakande, said Mr Kawooya is a fearless political activist under Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) a youth wing of the party  who has been on the frontline of most of political activities  in Kampala.

“He is one of the frontline activists in our party. Kawooya and more than 50 youth often converge at a bar opposite Theatre Labonita and discuss politics. I am sure those who grabbed him knew they would find him there because he is regular around that place,” Mr Kakande said.

Mr Peter Ssekabira, an accountant (according to his Twitter profile) in Kampala wrote: “This is Museveni’s Uganda, he won power to stop this Mafia style behaviour but now it’s on the increase and unacceptable. Arresting officers are supposed to identify themselves and no right to beat a suspect who is not fighting back! State of terror!”

“Right thinking Ugandans should open up a data Bank in which these wanton abuses of Human Rights should be documented. Good enough these ones can easily be identified. One fine day, these goons shall be brought to justice,” wrote Mr Tom Walugembe, a financial crimes prosecutor and activist wrote.

Another Tweep who identified himself as Paparazzi wrote: “Those are @OkothOchola1 goons that’s how they strike just as those who re-arrested a suspect after court granting him bail yesterday (Wednesday) yet we saw and heard the @PoliceUg boss @OkothOchola1 lie to the world that no one would ever re-arrest any suspects after court bail.”

Pyati Sololo said: “These are not policemen. They are members of CMI (Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence). Museveni uses them a lot to carry out unlawful arrests these days.”

Mr Kevin Mutumba Cartel @KevinMutumba said on his Twitter handle that the values of humanity are getting low each day that passes.  How in Uganda can one move armed like those men are. This could be rooted with in the security.

Mr Edson Mwebaze said he could not believe what he watched and commented: “Oooh no cry this professional armed forces …..I only hope they stopped batting him inside that tax….ayiiiiyiiii.”

“I am lost for words. We last saw such brutality by State Research Bureau agents of Idd Amin, Mr Joshua Tuhumwire wrote @TuhumwireJ.

“What was the rebranding for where @KagutaMuseveni spent billions to bring @kanyewest @KimKardashian? Uganda is a hive for #HumanRights violators,” wrote Bryanskee  @skeexiii

Mr Boaz Murinzi wrote: “I am sure that Mzee fought to transform our nation especially on the security and rule of law practice. If these people brutalising the gentleman are indeed security operatives, is this the result of your sacrifices?”

“What on earth is this really? Things happen in this country, that don’t show we are an organized society. If someone isn’t armed, why should they be beaten using a gun held by people, who are not in Police or Army uniform?” Mr John Vianney Nsimbe wrote ? @JohnVianneyNsim

“Do u think these kind of fellows would have any qualms with murdering @HEBobiwine driver in cold blood? The problem is that the reasonable and moderate voices in @NRMOnline have gone silent. This has emboldened these extremists. But all of us shall pay the price whether NRM or not,” Mr Dan Wandera Ogalo wrote  @DanOgalo.

Buffalo Soldier? @BuffaloSoldierA wrote: “The amount of case files to be investigated keeps increasing with no substantial resolutions. Is this now just another one of them? One wonders if these cases will truly be solved with the right perpetrators held to account. Surely @HEBobiwine & #PeoplePower should be vindicated.”

Daily Monitor, however, cannot confirm the identity of the brutalised man.
