For almost a week now, fans of top Ugandan reggae and ragga musician, Moses Ssali popularly known as Bebe Cool have been up in arms on social media over comments allegedly made by government spokesperson and Uganda Media Centre boss, Ofwono Opondo.
A section of online tabloids reported that Ofwono Opondo had claimed that Bebe paid his fans to pelt him with bottles, glasses and plastic chairs and humiliate him while on stage performing during the Swangz All Stars concert featuring Tarrus Riley so that he could gain sympathy from unsuspecting gullible Ugandans.
In fact as a result of the Friday night’s on-stage attack, Bebe has vowed not to make any more public appearances until further notice.
“For the safety of myself, family, friends and fans, I regrettably would like to announce that i will not be making any public performances until further notice. My prayer is that the current situation in our beloved country doesn’t deteriorate into an unfortunate state,” Bebe Cool posted on his Facebook wall last Sunday.
Ofwono on the spot
Ever since the alleged claim by Opondo was posted, Bebe’s fans have been attacking Opondo, a number of them reminding him of his ‘old habits which die hard.’
In response, however, Ofwono posted declaring that the reports were not true.
“Please disregard falsehoods making rounds on social media platforms regarding statements I allegedly made during the weekly @CapitalFMUganda Gang show against @BebeCoolUG,” Opondo tweeted on Thursday.

However, some of his tweeps replied saying his stament was long overdue since the damage was already done.
