Any one born in the 80s and 90s probably grew up dancing to Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s songs and now you can get the opportunity to watch the songstress perform live in Kampala this weekend.
Chaka Chaka, who is known for her numerous hits including Umqombothi, Let me be free and many others landed in Kampala on Tuesday evening, ahead of her Charity Concert this Friday.
She was received by the Shule Foundation team, comedienne Ann Kansiime and members of the press.
The musical fest, organized by The Shule Foundation will take place on July 20 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The show’s host will be comedian Salvado Idringi.
Upon her arrival, the internationally celebrated starlet promised to give Ugandans nothing short of a memorable performance.
“I urge you all to come out and let’s enjoy a great evening celebrating African music. Proceeds from the show are also being driven towards a charity cause, something I am very passionate about,” she said.
Proceeds from the show are to aid with the construction of a school for former street children in Kampala.
“With 48 percent of the children on the streets under the age of 15, we should take it upon ourselves to ensure that these children are granted atleast one basic right, which is education,” said Jacqueline Wolfson, the CEO and founder of the Shule Foundation. She added that it would be a fun filled night with performances from Bobi Wine, and many other surprise acts.
Tickets to the show are already on sale, at Shs100, 0000 (ordinary), Shs300, 000 (VIP), and Shs5 million and Shs8 million for the table seating.
