BOY FROM MASAKA: Faizo Muyunga aka King Far is multitalented, doing comedy, music and acting. Although comedy was what introduced him to the industry, he says music is what he loves.
Briefly tell us about yourself?
My name is Faizo Muyunga aka King Far, I live in Kumbu, a suburb of Masaka town. I was born and raised in Kyazanga Town Council in Lwengo District. My mother lives in the US while my father lives in Kampala. I am passionate about music, comedy and acting.
Why the name King Far?
My mother used to call me King Faizo when I was still young, relating me to the King of Saudi Arabia and also Faizo, a name that means king in Islam.
Tell us about your education background?
I went to Victory Town School for my primary education, BK Memorial Secondary School for O-Level then Nakateete Secondary School for A-Level all in Lwengo District and I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Mass Communication at Kampala University in 2016.
When did you start singing?
I started singing in 2013 when I was in my first year at the university.
How about comedy?
I started doing comedy in 2012 during my A-Level vacation.
What inspired you into the arts?
I think it was my dream from childhood so when I got to university I had the opportunity to exploit it without limitation.
How many songs do you have so far?
I have very many songs but I have only recorded four; Ronitah, Katono Katono ft Pato, and Fasi Fasi and shot one video. By the time I started singing, I was still pursuing my degree and I had to concentrate on my studies. I started doing serious music in 2017.
What kind of music do you do?
I do RnB and Afro music.
Whom do you look up to musically?
In Uganda, Bobi Wine and outside Uganda, R. Kelly moves me. I love the way they sing, their lifestyles and the music they do is so educative.
Do you have a music manager?
At this time I don’t have a manager or a promoter but am ready for one if he or she is out there and I pray to my Lord that I get one someday.
Apart from music, what else do you do to earn a living?
I am a comedian, and I especially imitate kadongokamu musicians such as Paul Kafeero as well as do standup comedy. I also act and I am under the group Teddyz Movie World, Masaka and I also feature in a big series called Catarina on Bukedde TV.
Do you think education is important to succeed musically?
Of course, yes. I think education and music are inseparable.
What advice do you have for youth who think music does not require an education?
Yes, music is possible without books but education is vital so youth need to go to school first and also know that talents are usually developed while at school.
What do you enjoy about music?
Performing, especially on stage.
Are you single, married or dating?
I am very single and seriously searching.
What are your hobbies?
I like clubbing, travelling and enjoying with friends.
What challenges have you encountered in the industry so far?
The major challenge is finances because entering the music industry is a hard thing because you require a lot of money and also getting a promoter or someone to push your music is not simple.
What are some of the benefits you have enjoyed since you joined the industry?
I have made some good friendships, pleasure, exposure and fame within greater Masaka and Mbarara.
What are some of your future plans?
To become the best singer because I understand what people want and that is what I sing about.
