The nineteenth edition of Blankets and Wine which happened yesterday at Lugogo cricket Oval was quite unlike past ones. What made the difference was the choice of headlining act, the controversial Fik Fameica and The Ben, a Rwandese artiste. As expected the Rwandese community thronged the venue to see one of their big artistes perform.
The Ben’s vocals were on point, his stage presence exceptional and to crown it all, he perfomed the late Mowzey Radio’s ‘Neera’, a song that many have failed to do justice. He also did songs like Habibi, Roho Yanjye, Ntacyadutanya and the most popular in Uganda Binkolera which he did with Sheeba.
Like it had been expected, Fik Fameica, the freshest music talent on the scene was up to the task. Not that he hasn’t been performing but he had to sing on a live band. Many waited to see how it would turn up but surprisingly, he did his best. Making slay queens do ‘bend-overs’ on every song he did, even talking it a notch higher by inviting Wembley with his dancers to show some dance skills. Fameica performed songs like Kutama, My property and Byenyenya among others.
The crowd would shift the already lively atmosphere in the oval to the next level when renowned, Dj and producer Heay K, gave ears his blend of house music and afro-pop. He did not disappoint and lived up to his high reputation.
