The modeling industry is celebrating a milestone after another Ugandan model embarked on her modeling career in South Africa.
Joy Winnie Aketch who flew to the country last month has already taken part in some runway shows by walking for renowned designers such as Salami Abdel-Wahab, Leigh Schubert, Khosi Nkosi, among others.
Aketch is signed to Fusion Model Management on a three-year-renewable contract. The management is now primarily responsible for handling her career.
Although the management confirmed the 23-year-old in November last year, she did not travel sooner because of the delay faced in processing the required paper work including a work visa for South Africa.
Before her relocation, Aketch was under Joram Model Management where she got booked for a number of local fashion shows including Kampala Fashion Week (2017) and the (2017) Abryanz Style and Fashion show (ASFAs).
She has also appeared in different editorial fashion campaigns for renowned Ugandan designers. Aketch who strongly regards herself a born-again Christian says God is her source of inspiration.
“I have shared with Him my movements, desires, dreams, inspirations and aspirations. This journey I am embarking on in South Africa are answered prayers,” she says.
Aketch has a Bachelors degree in Arts with Education in English and Literature which she attained in 2016 from Makerere University on a scholarship. She hopes to use her modeling career to inspire many other upcoming models in the world.
Aketch joins the likes of Stacie Lagum Aamito, Patricia Akello and Paul Mwesigwa, all Ugandan models who have had major international break throughs in their respective modeling careers.
