Since the inception of the Your music your voice project by the Ugandan German Cultural Society, Hip Hop lovers have been eagerly waiting to listen to the music that the unlikely combination of selected artistes would produce.
Last Friday Evening Kamwokya based Goethe-Zentrum hosted a handful of Hip Hop enthusiasts as the project finally released two of the much anticipated songs in the Sundowner release party at the center’s roof top.
La chuna (German for Your music your voice) was the first song to be played and it got the revelers nodding their heads as they listened to the track whose instrumental was produced by Nils fellar in Berlin.
It featured a number of rappers including; Juma from Kenya, Xuman from Senegal, Nash Mc from Tanzania while Monza, Zex Inchkumi, Lady Slyke and Abramz and Sylvester represented Uganda.
Lady Slyke the only woman on the song proved her worth outshining the guys while Abramz and Sylvester nailed the chorus.
La Chuna was followed by The voice of reason whose energetic introduction got revelers screaming. It featured Eric 1Key from Rwanda, Outspoken from Zimbabwe, Juma from Kenya, Jora MC from Uganda, Zex Inchkumi from Uganda and produced by Koz’n Effekt from Uganda.
Both songs were recorded by Matex at Dream studios Kampala while the mix & master was done by Nils Faller.
The night was also graced a by performance from Lady Slyke.
Although it was basically a listening party, most of the guests felt that other famous artistes should have been invited to perform so as to liven up the event.
In fact what made the event stand out for some was the cheap beer sold at Shs 3,000.
Your music your voice is a musical project whose aim was to create collaboration between Hip Hop musicians from six African countries and German who were invited to create songs that advocate for social justice and freedom of expression.
