At this rate, we can say Uganda is ‘really getting there’ via entertainment. Of course we might not be in the league of Nigeria or South Africa but, we are surely on the way to greater things.
Here is a list of Ugandan artistes that have kinda represented at awards outside of Africa. Goodlyf received a nod for a BET Awards some years back before Eddy Kenzo actually brought the first BET award home. This year, the Triplets (Ghetto kids) staged a memorable performance on the main stage of the prestigious BET Awards alongside French Montana.
But the BET Awards aside, Ziza Bafana, if all goes well will become the first Ugandan artiste to be nominated in the Grammy Awards for Breakthrough Artiste, for his song ‘Katonda wa Ragga’.
However, Ziza’s chances of receiving a nod highly depend on the activity of Ugandans on social media because the awards highly consider the productivity of one’s social media presence.
Earlier this week, the musician came out and asked Ugandans and East Africans to subscribe to his Vevo Channel for him to stand a chance. “I wish to invite you to subscribe to my Vevo Channel and for that same reason I have invited you with a new video Upload of my song ‘Katonda Wa Ragga’, a song that is being considered for the 60th Grammy Nominations soon to end this month,” he wrote.
Let’s all join hands and see Bafana making history as this not only helps him in his career but pushes the Uganda flag high up.
