When you see him around town, do not scream. He is not a ghost. It is Wang Jie, China’s perhaps best Michael Jackson imitator. He also goes by the stage name Wang Jackson.
Wang loves Michael Jackson and has been imitating him since 2011, when he performed Billie Jean at a Michael Jackson Memorial concert at Zadeh Stadium, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
That is not the main point though. Wang is in Uganda! He is visiting schools that teach Chinese, the main language spoken in China.
Wang had his first visit at Luyanza College School in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District today, and caused hysteria in the school.
Teachers, pupils, askaris, and all those in the school at that time were overcome with shock. Some screamed, while others just stared.
They were seeing Michael Jackson’s ghost, they thought. His eyes, lips, the cleft chin and style was just exactly Michael Jackson. But this ‘ghost’ was not at the school to perform.
Wang called upon children to study Chinese so that they get opportunities in future and also change their lifestyle.
A number of Jackson’s imitators have emerged in the last decade. Wang Jie, a once ordinary young rural man, however, has become the most popular imitation artiste from China.
