Nine whole seasons have seen Jazz Safari as one of the most sought after events on Uganda’s social scene. It now seems the organisers want the 10th season of the Jazz Safari to be bigger, better and ‘smoother’.
For this reason, the show’s organisers have decided to leave the nine-year flagship sponsor, Nile Gold, for a more executive brand in Johnnie Walker. This year’s edition will take place at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in September. Tshaka Mayanja said: “This year is our 10th anniversary edition. From this year, we plan to steer the event into new horizons. Rebirth. Renewal. Renaissance. JW is the perfect partner as the brand is in line with our virtues; consistency, longevity, class and pedigree,” he said.
The annual jazz event was started by musicians Mayanja and Elijah Kitaka, who had a passion to introduce jazz music to Uganda. Inspired by radio jazz segments and small gatherings, it transformed into nine international standard concerts that showcased the intricate craft that is jazz.
